Biography

Glen Payne (October 20, 1926 – October 15, 1999) served more than fifty years as a Southern gospel music singer. He is known for being the lead singer of The Cathedral Quartet. At age 17 in 1944, he joined the Stamps-Baxter Quartet. Payne was also a member of the Lester Stamps Quartet, The Stamps All-Stars, and The Stamps-Ozark Quartet. In 1956, he joined The Weatherford Quartet, which featured Glen, Earl and Lily Fern Weatherford, Armond Morales, and George Younce. Younce was later replaced by Henry Slaughter. Payne was married and had three children and three grandchildren.
